Cannabinoid Infused MCT Oil & Horses
Cannabinoid Infused MCT Oil & Horses
Just like us humans, animals also need proper nourishment and supplements to function at their optimal level. They require various minerals and nutrients to function physically and mentally. For animals like horses, that use up high levels of energy on a daily basis, especially if they are performance-based, proper and healthy nourishment is imperative.
This is where Sierra Mojo's proprietary infused MCT oil comes in. MCT oil contains medium chain triglycerides. MCT oils are easier to digest, absorb and convert to energy than the traditionally used vegetable oils. It’s been reported to assist with ulcers, acidosis, colic and dysbiosis and is particularly helpful for horses on a grain-based feed. MCT Oil is energy dense and yields about 2 times the energy than starch or protein. It gives your horse a readily digestible energy, without the “hotness” that generally comes with high grain diets (great for you OTTB riders!). Sierra Mojo's proprietary infused MCT oil also works great as a Hoof Conditioner this will do wonders for dry cracked hooves.
According to a study done in 2016, researchers discovered that cannabinoids have the ability to effectively reduce the pain that resulted due to arthritis as well as inflammation.
Horses, whether they are farm, recreational or competitive ones, are all prone to injuries like sprains, fractures, and even broken bones. This 2009 research which studied “Cannabinoids as novel anti-inflammatory drugs” suggested that cannabinoids may be an effective treatment for a number of conditions that cause inflammation.
Your horse may be suffering from a colon and/or digestion problem such as gas, indigestion or heartburn or may even have serious issues like gastric and/or colic ulcers. Research like this one suggested that “Cannabidiol reduces intestinal inflammation through the control of the neuroimmune axis” and this 2016 study showed that cannabis can significantly help with inflammatory bowel disease.
Field trials conducted with Centaur Health Equine Veterinarians found that cannabinoids helped reduce overall anxiety. Horses that were "unhappy" in training became "happier" and more focused in their training sessions. Horses that were exhibiting undesirable behaviors in their stalls became more content.
Apart from these benefits, studies have shown that cannabinoids have pain-relieving effects for many conditions that commonly affect horses. These are listed below
Reduce Pain
Improve Digestion and Appetite
Reduce Inflammation
Arthritis
Nausea
Seizures
Separation Anxiety/Generalized Anxiety/Trailering anxiety
Chronic laminitis
Stall rest
Herd bound issues
